Dummie has now settled in completely in Polderdam, the village where Gus and his father Klaas have given him a home. They go to school together and they are the best of friends. Until they suddenly realise that Dummie can’t eat anything and will therefore never grow up. Mr Krabbel understands the problem, and discovers the existence of an ancient Egyptian statue containing a type of oil that could help Dummie. Gus wants to go and find the statue straight away, but it turns out to be at the bottom of the sea.
Dummie decides he had better become really famous instead: as an artist. The local newspaper’s painting competition looks to be the ideal outlet for his talent, and he has already found a model: Miss Friek! While Dummie gets to work on his painting, Gus goes all out to fish that statue out of the sea. Even if that means paying a visit to a mysterious lady.
