When Maarten learns his father Hans is terminally ill, he takes him on a final trip to France’s Champagne region. Their dream destination is the tourist train through the cellars of Épernay—paradise for Hans, who loves a good drink. Sent off by Maarten’s wife Loes and his mother Sophie, the two set out with hope, only to discover they’re hopelessly mismatched for a bonding journey. With conversations strained and old patterns resurfacing, they connect instead through shared meals and small, unexpected moments that slowly bring them closer, turning the road trip into a bittersweet farewell.
